Recent Remodel Project Finished
Here at Garrett’s we are
in our 9th year at our Lemon Grove location and decided it was
time for some remodeling. Our
recent remodeling provides us with a more efficient and customer friendly
environment.
Our new counter provides
much more room than our old counter. This means more elbow room for our customers and an extra
work station that allows us to do more than one transaction at a time.
Come see our new music displays.
Our sheet music is now organized into attractive bins that organize
our selection into different instruments and music styles.
Looking for Pop music, music by Beethoven, Bastien Piano Method
books, or even Accordion music? No
problem. The selection is
greater and easier to find than ever.
We have also relocated our central counter.
This means more open space for our customer’s to browse through
our great selection of instrument accessories.
Our new modular displays on casters make it easy for us to move
them out of the main area of our store.
You’ll be sure to catch that perfect photo of your son or
daughter during one of our “Club Date” performances with no
obstructions.
A new wall display of our band and orchestral instruments has also
recently been installed. You’ll
get a great view of the great selection that we offer that until now had
often remained hidden due to lack of display space.
Not anymore. Not only
do the instruments look great on their new display but the prices look
even better.
Last but not least, recently installed energy efficient ceiling
fans will make your experience here at Garrett’s more comfortable during
this hot summer.
Be sure to stop by to take advantage if our recent improvements the
next time you are in the area.

Summertime
– By Jason Sieckman
Summer, and the vacation associated with it, have been described in
many ways. “Hot” is one
word I’ve heard. “Too
short” is a description I have heard some kids say.
“Too long” is a description offered by many parents. Another
word, which I have never heard said but which can often be implied
from some activities during the summer, is “boring.”
Thus we see “Summer Camps,” “Summer Day Camps,” and of
course the ubiquitous roving band of kids seen on every street corning
wanting to wash my car or sell me some sort of warm weather beverage.
Sure many people go on family vacations, but some of us get left
behind. To me this seems like
the perfect time for a hobby. Music
is one that comes to my mind for some reason or another.
While many school music programs end during the summer, private
lessons are always available. For
only $32/ month you get individualized instruction that has been proven to
promote success better than any other music teaching method.
Also, use this time off to make sure your instrument is functioning
properly. If you just toss
your instrument under the bed after that last day of class, then pull it
out on the first day of class you may be in for a surprise.
Not only may small colonies of bacteria have built condominiums in
your mouthpiece but there may be some needed repairs.
Just before school starts or right after is the worst time to bring
in an instrument for repair. Everyone
does this, and it can take much longer to get some types of repairs back.
Check your instrument out now.
Polish it up, clean that mouthpiece, buy those reeds, and bring it
in to our shop if it isn’t playing properly.
You’ll be the most prepared musician in your band next year.
Finally, take time to develop a practice routine.
Practicing is a lot like brushing your teeth: if you do it
everyday, or at least make it a habit, many people will thank you. But it can be difficult to develop a habit when you are
really busy, like when school starts again.
So the summer is the ideal time to develop and implement a music
practice program. Goals like
“practice 3 days a week for ½ hour” and “brush teeth before and
after every meal” are easily attainable and give you a sense of success
and fulfillment. Nothing can
be more disheartening during the summer than a feeling of having
accomplished nothing during the day and having bad breath.
I highly recommend that you use this time during the summer wisely.
By developing your musical talents, you can turn a potentially
boring summer into a productive and fulfilling one.
